Mascara Mania

There is something for everyone when it comes to all the mascaras on the market.

Summer is here and I feel bald without my eyelash extensions, so I figured what better time to try out all the new and improved mascaras available. Plus there are so many that I already love that I had to share. Below you will find the perfect mascara for you with a variety of types, brands, and price points! But I’m always on the lookout for the latest and greatest so if I’m missing a mascara you love, please send it my way!

Thrive Causemetic Liquid Lash Extension Mascara

Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extension Mascara is great for lengthening, but not so much for volumizing and thickening. I like the ease of it, but my pet peeve when it comes to mascara is when the product makes your lashes look spidery. I feel that this product makes my lashes clump together more than I would like. I could use a comb to brush them out (did not do so in the picture), but I prefer not to have the extra step.

This is my personal favorite and I go to single-step mascara even with the clumping factor. I really like that it contains Orchid Stem Cells that encourage and support longer and healthier-looking lashes. It’s also dermatologist tested and ophthalmologist tested and approved. It’s definitely gentle and safe for sensitive eyes and removes super easily with just soap and water. Their innovative firm hold tubing formula allows the “tubes” to slide right off and make removal super easy.

Pros:

  • Long length with only 2 coats

  • Goes on well and easily

  • Removes easily

Cons:

  • Lashes clump together

  • Not waterproof

Wet N Wild Lash-O-Matic Mascara

This is by far my most favorite fiber mascara! I used to sell a competitor brand that was 3X the price and I like the lash-o-matic mascara better! The mascara itself goes on super smooth and so unlike other fiber mascara, it requires little to no combing through like other products. The fibers are white which makes it easier to ensure that you have covered it with the black product #2 mascara and helps to ensure you don’t have residual fibers that end up in your eyes.

This mascara provides length and thickness. I like to do 3 coats, and this is a favorite with or without eye makeup. Another great thing is that it’s buildable so you can add as much length and volume as desired. This product provides up to 39x more volume and uses nylon fibers that stay put. It’s not waterproof but holds up well with no smudging and removes easily with soap and water.

Pros:

  • Easy to use

  • Minimal clumping

  • Removes easily

  • Price

Cons:

  • Not waterproof

  • Takes longer than other mascaras because it’s 2 steps

Benefit Roller Lash

This is a great basic mascara. I think it’s a great option for when you aren’t wearing full makeup. It doesn’t clump and adds length and a small amount of volume. I’m obsessed with its patented hook-shaped wand, it definitely helps keep your lashes separated and catches every lash.

I don’t think it’s impactful enough to be worn with eye makeup as it wouldn’t emphasize your lashes enough against heavy makeup. An added bonus, while it isn’t waterproof,  it is water-resistant with a satin finish that stays incredibly well and doesn’t streak at all whatsoever!!! Love that! Plus it’s easy to remove and eye makeup remover isn’t necessary.

This mascara curls and lifts and the brush grabs, separates, lifts, and curls. Plus, the instant curve setting formula holds for up to 12 hours! It also contains provitamin B5 and serin that conditions your lashes while wearing it.

Pros:

  • Easy to use

  • Easy to remove

  • Keeps lashes separate

  • Unaffected by water

Cons:

  • Not impactful enough to be worn with makeup

400x Silk Fiber Mascara

This is another fiber mascara that is a 2 step process. I prefer the Lash-O-Matic Mascara over this brand. These fibers are black, I prefer white so you can ensure you are coating all the fiber. I also think this mascara is more obviously a fiber mascara as the fibers don’t completely seal the way the other brand does. However, it is waterproof which is an added bonus and it removes easily.

I didn’t comb through my lashes after applying for this photo because I wanted to show what it looks like unaltered. I would definitely comb these through before going out. I think this mascara is a little clumper and it doesn’t look as natural as the other brand.

This two-step fiber mascara is hypoallergenic and non-toxic. Additionally, something that I love is that this mascara supports a woman or child in danger. Every product purchased from this company helps charity water or Operation Underground Rescue.

Pros:

  • Long lashes

  • Waterproof

  • Each purchase supports a charity

  • Easily removed

Cons:

  • Clumpy

  • Black fibers

  • Needs to be combed

  • Unnatural looking

4D Silk Fiber Eyelash Mascara

I thought this hypoallergenic fiber mascara was going to be amazing! It’s a one-step fiber mascara and I was hoping it would be similar to the one I used to get from MAC that was discontinued. It was not!

This mascara has a gluey and sticky consistency. It’s difficult to apply, and it clumps easily and needs to be brushed through to make it look better. I did not do that for these photos. But it does give great length!

This mascara is also waterproof, but not in a good way. This product is like super glue and so difficult to get off, that I had to use my foam eyelash cleaner 3 times to remove it! This can be damaging to your natural lashes and thus a no-go for me!

Anastasia of Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara

I bought the Anastasia Lash Brag Mascara before I even took my lash extensions off. I had taken a brow class with THE ANASTASIA herself and she raved about this mascara and how you could apply multiple layers without it getting clumpy, and she was telling the truth!

This mascara is volumizing, lengthening, long-wearing, water-resistant, ophthalmologist reviewed, gluten-free, and alcohol-free.

I love this mascara! It’s my favorite of the bunch as far as single-step mascaras go. It definitely gives amazing length and fullness that some of the other mascaras are missing. I am impressed and I think it is worth the investment. This has become my go-to mascara especially for when I don’t wear face makeup or I wear minimal makeup.

Pros:

  • Great length

  • Easy to apply

  • Easy to remove

  • Volumizing

  • Water-resistant

  • Great with only one coat

Cons:

  • Price

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

I bought this mascara because it was the #1 mascara on Prime Day. The article I read said this drugstore mascara won over tens of thousands of customers and celebs. It’s described as a richly pigmented formula that promises a lightweight, eye-defining result. Its special wand features 10 layers of bristles that create a supposed “full fan effect” It claims to lengthen and volumize each lash. It’s smudge-proof but not waterproof.

I purchased the Midnight black shade because it was infused with nourishing rosehip oil, which makes the formula comfortable to wear and conditions lashes for a super soft feel.

While this mascara was fine, I wasn’t overly impressed and didn’t feel it was any better or more special than any of the other mascaras that I tested. I actually would rank it in the bottom three mascara choices from the ones that I reviewed. I felt like this mascara did lengthen and add some volume, but it was super clumpy. It’s not a great layering mascara as it gets thicker with each layer. I wouldn’t recommend this mascara.

Sometimes you have to use mascara more than once because the first application isn’t a true indication of the product, and I have had it happen where it gets better with the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th use. This one got worse with each use.

Pros:

  • Easy to apply

  • Easy Removal

  • Conditions lashes while wearing it

  • Smudge-proof

Cons:

  • Very basic

  • Clumpy

  • Gets worse when you apply multiple coats

Maybelline The Falsies

The Falsies mascara came across my google alerts as the mascara that made the author quit getting eyelash extensions. One of the pros that were discussed was that it washes off easily, I’ll cosign that claim. Other than that, I can’t imagine ever vocalizing, let alone claiming, that this mascara could take the place of extensions. It’s just not the case.

This mascara added length, but nothing crazy and certainly not more than any of the others I tested. It definitely wasn’t volumizing! I would describe this mascara as making my lashes wispy. So if you are going for that look, this is your mascara, and maybe it's being compared to a classic set of eyelash extensions?

For me, this mascara is not a repurchase and did not live up to all the hype.

Pros:

  • Added Length

  • Good Price

  • Easy to remove

Cons:

  • Pretty basic

  • No volume

Nars Climax Mascara

The Nars Climax Mascara is described as giving hardcore lift and softcore feel with a featherweight touch. It was a moisture complex formula, ribbed bristle brush, and buildable intensity. It also claims it won’t clump or smudge.

The Nars Climax goes on easily and is super impactful. I applied 3 coats and when I looked in the mirror I was impressed with how much length the mascara provided. My lashes were basically touching my eyebrows which is amazing.

However, I wouldn’t call it volumizing. I think it could be combed through and my lashes would fan and look fuller. The deal-breaker for me is that it’s messy. I had to go back in with a q-tip and clean up my eyelids. This is usually because of the shape of the brush. This is something that irritates me, especially if I’ve already applied eyeshadow, so it’s a deal-breaker for me. It also smudges easily and is not waterproof.

Pros:

  • Super Lengthening

  • Doesn’t flake

  • Impactful

Cons:

  • Mascara is messy

  • Irritates eyes

  • Doesn’t provide much fullness

  • Not smudge or waterproof

I hope that this guide helps you to find your perfect mascara!

Peace, Love, and long, lush lashes,

XX,

Jenna
